Court grants Okorocha half a billion naira bail

A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, admitted Sen. Rochas Okorocha to bail in the sum of N500 million with one surety in like sum. Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a ruling, said granting bail was a discretionary power of the court. Justice Ekwo said the surety, who must have a landed property within the jurisdiction of the court, must deposit the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) of the verified property with the registry of the court. The judge, while admitting the senator to a bail with a cautionary statement, ordered that his international passport be deposited to the registry of the court. He ordered the registry of the court to inform the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) about the state of Okorocha’s travel documents. He further ordered the lawmaker not to travel outside the country except with the leave of the court.   Comedian, Chukwuemeka Emmanuel, popularly known as Sabinus, has slammed a one billion naira suit on Friesland Foods Wamco Nigeria Plc for unauthorised use of his trademark ‘something hooge’. In an Instagram post on May 24, Peak Milk had used the phrase ‘something hooge’ to advertise their product. Addressing the company through his lawyer, Stanley Alieke, Sabinus noted that the phrase was his registered trademark and therefore, demanded N1 billion in compensation and damages. In the legal notice cited by The PUNCH on Monday, Sabinus threatened a lawsuit if the brand failed to comply within two weeks from the receipt of the legal notice. “Our client briefed us and we believe the same to be true that your Company, Friesland Foods Wamco Nigeria Plc, used a trademarked slogan ‘Something Hooge’ for the promotion of your Peak Milk product,” the legal notice dated May 27 read. As students across the country continue to protest against the ongoing strike, students on Friday in Imo State took to the streets of Owerri to also lay their grievances. Led by various students bodies including National Association of Nigerian Students  ( NANS) Zone F, Nations Union of Imo State Students (NUISS) and SUG presidents of various institutions in the state.   Real Madrid clinch record-extending 14th title!!! Real Madrid have done it!!! Vinicius Jr scored in the second half as Real Madrid beat Liverpool to claim their 14th European Cup at the Stade de France in Paris. The Spanish giants claimed their fifth Champions League trophy in nine seasons. Earlier, the game was evenly poised at 0-0 by the halftime with Liverpool hitting the post and enjoying the possession in the first 45 minutes.  There was a 36-minute delay to the kick-off as police tried to hold off people trying to force their way into the stadium. The union said it took the decision following some progress made with the Federal Government regarding its demands. ASUP, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Abdullahi Yalwa disclosed that the government had met four of its demands .
