Lagos Ranked Second Worst Liveable City In The World - Politics

  A global business intelligence, Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has said Lagos, the Nigeria’s commercial capital city is the world’s second least liveable urban area. EIU ranked Lagos 171 out of 172 countries in the list of most liveable cities in the world for the first quarter of 2022, according to the latest 2022 Global Liveability Index. This report makes the Nigerian best city the worst in Africa as Damascus (Syria) and Tripoli (Libya) continue to anguish at the bottom of the list along with Lagos (Nigeria) as they face social unrest, terrorism and conflict. The least liveable cities were Damascus in Syria, Lagos in Nigeria, Tripoli in Libya, Algiers in Algeria and Karachi in Pakistan, which scored 30.7, 32.2, 34.2, 37.0 and 37.5 respectively. “The EIU further highlighted the top five most liveable cities in the world which are Vienna, Austria scoring 99. 1; Copenhagen, Denmark with 98.0; Zurich, Switzerland with 96.3; Calgary, Canada had 96.3 and Vancouver, Canada with 96.

Court steps down Osinachi husband’s case due to multiple counsel

  The alleged culpable homicide suit against Peter Nwachukwu, husband of the late gospel singer, Osinachi in a Federal Capital Territory High Court on Monday, was stepped down in order for his lawyers to align themselves to represent him. When the matter slated for hearing before Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme came up, the Prosecution Counsel, Aderonke Imana, informed the court that the matter was for hearing and that they were ready to proceed. A. Ogbonna also announced his appearance as watching brief of the nominal complainant. The counsel that represented the defendant during his arraignment, Victor Abakpa, however prayed the court to adjourn the matter until Tuesday, as another lawyer from a different chamber just informed that he was taking over the case.   Bitcoin (BTC) sank below $20,000 for the first time since December 2020, losing 9.5% in the past 24 hours. At time of publication, the largest cryptocurrency by market cap was changing hands around $18,984.1 after trading at a low of $18,739.50. Ether (ETH), the second largest crypto, also continued its decline, falling 9.78% to about $992 at time of publication. The crypto panic – which began a few weeks ago with the Terra ecosystem collapse and then spread to the Celsius platform – has moved on to hedge fund Three Arrow Capital, which reportedly had its collateral liquidated by crypto lender BlockFi. Checking traditional markets, U.S. stocks saw more massive selling on Thursday, with the Nasdaq tumbling 4.1% and the S&P 500 3.25% before a slight recovery on Friday. For the week, the Nasdaq and S&P are each lower by about 6%.

Enugu Catholic church disowns Mbaka over attack on Peter Obi

  ENUGU—THE Catholic church in Enugu has disowned Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, the fiery director of Catholic Adoration Ministry Enugu, over his verbal attack on Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party for 2023 elections. Mbaka has been trending in the social media over his comments that Peter Obi is stingy that he would not win the election. He said many abusive things about Peter which drew public anger on him in the social media. Mbaka also claimed that he with others he mentioned, helped to restore Obi to power when he was impeached and expressed anger that the former governor did not reward him. He said that the apology he earlier tendered to Peter Obi was not out of his volition but under duress from his Bishop. Tinubu Summits Masari's Name As Running Mate

  As part of the plan to beat the Friday June 17 deadline given by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to political parties to submit the names of presidential candidates and their running mates, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu has submitted the name of Kabir Ibrahim Masari. It was, however, gathered that the name of Masari, who hails from the home State of President Muhammadu Buhari, would later be changed after the party stakeholders must have agreed on the suitable vice-presidential candidate for the 2023 elections. A party source confirmed to DAILY POST that it was true that Tinubu has submitted the name of his running mate, but added that “consultation is still ongoing” It was further gathered that the move by Tinubu and the ruling party was to meet the statutory requirement and beat the deadline set by the electoral umpire. Club shooting update: Police invite Burna Boy for interrogation

  LAGOS—Police authorities in Lagos State have reportedly invited popular music artiste, Damini Ogulu, alias Burna Boy, for interrogation over the alleged shooting of fun-seekers by police escorts assigned to him. This is coming on the heels of the revelation, yesterday, that the Burna Boy’s five police escorts were assigned to him from the Force Headquarters, Abuja. However, at press time, it was gathered that detectives are working round the clock to trace his whereabout just as news-making rounds said he is not in the country. Police sources said Burna Boy has allegedly fled the country immediately after the incident to avoid questioning, adding: “Already, five police escorts attached to the singer have since been arrested and are being detained at the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja.” A police source revealed that the escorts involved in the incident didn’t notify the police about the incident.
